I'm finally out!
July 16, 2002

Yep! I'm finally out! Hooray!

After over 14 hours of labor, I made my debut today at 8:31am. Once I was out, I weighed in at 7 lb, 6 oz and was 19.5 inches tall.

I was born in Ann Arbor at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital.

I broke mom's water at 1pm, yesterday. Yesterday morning, in our daily discussion through the stomach wall, dad said it was okay to come out -- little did he know I was already planning on it!

Mom pushed for over 3 hours to get me to come out!

Here's mom in the delivery room - this was before the epidural came, so she was in a lot of pain (sorry, mom!)

The epidural came at 9pm, and as you can see in this picture, it's over 6 hours later - 4:45am - mom was doing fine. The heavy pushing didn't start until 5am. :)

This is the light at the end of tunnel... ;) Actually, it's the light the doctor used so I knew where to go when I was coming out.

Mom says:
"Epidurals are our friends -
ask for them by name!"

Once I made my grand appearance, the nurses rushed me into this room which was part of the delivery room. They made sure I could breathe okay, cleaned me up, and kept me warm.

Here's another view of the delivery room, mom & dad watched TV to pass the time as they awaited my arrival.

Yep! Windows 95 helped me come out! This system monitored my heartbeat (on top), and mom's contractions (middle).

This unit tracked my heartbeat, mom's blood pressure & pulse, and also kept a hard copy of my heartbeat and mom's contractions.

Mom really didn't want an IV, however, in order to get the epidural she had to have one.

After an hour of heavy contractions, she's glad she did!

Hey! It's mom and dad! They were wondering exactly how long it was going to take for me to come out...

Here I am - just minutes after I came out!

"Hey Guys! Clean this stuff off of me, I need to look my best!" I screamed... No one seemed to hear me...

The device on my belly monitored my temperature.

My poor head - I was locked under mom's pelvic bone for about 2 hours - I sure had a headache.

Here I am in ICU, about an hour after I was born - mom stopped by to visit me on her way...

from the Labor & Delivery section to the Mother/Baby section.

About 4 hours later, Aunt Katelyn...

Uncle Adam...

...and Grandma Marty stopped by to visit me!

Thanks for coming guys!

Here I am all connected in ICU - I found out what some of the gadgets were for...
On my leg there is a blood pressure gauge, and on my toe is a way for the nurses to know how much oxygen was in my blood...

They put me on a little oxygen because they wanted to be safe, and they had me on antibiotics via the IV because mom had a temperature when she was delivering me. Turns out, they had nothing to worry about, I was fine.

It's Aunt Kate, mommy, and Uncle Adam!

Mom was pretty worn out from the whole process.

Hi Grandma!!

Hi dad & mom! Thanks for pushing so hard! Sorry I took so long... :)
