1/6/01 - Key West Lighthouse Museum
& A Surprise

After we completed the tour of Ernest Hemingway's house, we walked across Whitehead Street and toured the Key West Lighthouse.

Theory states that the reason Ernest bought his house across the street from the lighthouse was so we could find his way home after hanging out at Sloppy Joe's all night... ;)

The lighthouse, as with everything else at Key West, was definitely cool -- we were able to get some good photographs of the island, as you'll see below.

Enjoy!

Tara talks to Commander Dan Laursen on the cell phone while simultaneously standing under the Key West Lighthouse Museum sign!

We interrupt this program to show...
Two guys holding hands...
A common sight in Key West.

A view of the Lighthouse we will soon be climbing...

Tara demonstrates the huge lens that used to be used for the light!

Another patented Windows background (tm) brought to by Charly2!

Holy long climbs, Batman!
Note to self: Don't try climbing this when you are just recouping from the flu... UGH!

A view to the south -- Look close you can see Cuba (just kidding!)

A view to the east - Ernest's house from the look-out at the lighthouse.

A view to the north - A cruise ship is in port near Mallory Square.

A view to the south-east over Key West.

A close up of Whitehead Street down below.

Another look to the south.

The steep climb into the actual room where the light is in the light house.

Howdy!!!

Tara says "Howdy!"

Here we are on the steps of the actual Key West Lighthouse Museum.

An awesome shot of the lighthouse and its neighboring Banyan Tree
(yes, I love Banyan Trees...)

We visited Mel Fisher's Maritime Museum -- this is the museum where you can actually hold a gold bar from the Spanish ships that sank off the coast of Key West.

Surprise!!

Later in the evening we ran across this guy -- what are you looking at is a dog trained to hold...

a cat, and a cat trained to hold a white mouse.

Here is a front view for you!

The Whistle Bar on Duval Street -- if you look closely you can see the benches on the second floor giving you a really good view of the streets!

The Hard Rock Cafe in Key West.
